Liverpool Plains Business Chamber Inc. is a not-for-profit business support organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting local businesses. We have been building strength, vitality and unity within our business community, making a positive impact across the entire Liverpool Plains region since 1929.
Our mission statement is "Together we’re building a stronger business community."
This ethos has been our founding belief since the formation of the Chamber on 8 March 1929. It took three years to establish the Chamber since the first editorial was published on 21st January 1927 called ‘Chamber’ authored by Harald W. Hawker.
In 1929, there was enthusiastic support for a Chamber of Commerce. A meeting that was described as “the best public meeting since the white-hot war days” decided a chamber might boost trade, attract visitors, and agitate for better postal and rail facilities. H.W. Hawker of the Quirindi Advocate moved the motion, after which, he became the first Secretary. Store owner J.J. Reilly was elected President, and accountant R.D. Gelling Treasurer. Vice Presidents were R.W. Cansdell (store manager) and A.G. Hague (solicitor). The committee were T.B. Tinson (cordial manufacturer), O. Cadell (mechanic), J.R. Taylor (baker), W.E. Waterford (solicitor), J.F. Ryan (clothing store), J.L. Booler (chemist), G. Blackwell (bank manager), K.Wyburn (sawmiller) and S. Windsor (butcher).
Meetings were held monthly, upstairs in Reily House. Membership cost L1 1s. per annum. However, the brave and optimistic start was overcome by the depression, where Quirindi did not form a Chamber again until 17th July 1951.
In 1987, Industry and Tourism was added, to form the (Quirindi Chamber of Commerce Industry & Tourism.
On 27 September 1994, the Chamber of Commerce was incorporated.
In 2017, the name changed to the Liverpool Plains Business Chamber Inc.
Today our statement is remains strong, upheld by a General Committee of dedicated and passionate volunteers with a vision towards the growth and success of local businesses. On a collective journey, we aim to explore opportunities that boost trade and attract visitors to our shire to amplify economic growth. The same principles that our founders believed in 1929, still apply to our current economic times.
Together, we can make a positive difference in our communities and support local businesses.
